About andrea
Our family moved to Carstairs 11 years ago in 2014. Having grown up in a small town, both my husband and I wanted to raise our children in a small community. We embrace the mentality of "It Takes a Village" and Carstairs was the perfect fit for us.
I have a Business Administration Diploma and am working toward my Bachelor’s in Business Management. I’ve also worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Vice President of an oil and gas company, which gave me valuable experience in organization, communication, and supporting management with budgets, staffing, and planning.
Throughout that time, I spent over twenty years teaching piano, which gave me a good understanding of how differently kids learn and what helps them succeed.
Community Involvement
Whatever activities our children are involved in, I am not far behind. For the past four years, I have been President of the Hugh Sutherland School Music Association and Vice President prior to that. I have also volunteered in Gymnastics, Scouts, fundraisers to support local programs, the Annual Food Drive for the Mountain View Food Bank, and helped run bi-weekly youth programs in Olds.
Priorities as trustee
My decision to run for Trustee comes from both personal and local experience. As a parent and active member in our community, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of safe classrooms, strong teachers, and schools that reflect the small-town values we cherish. Through years of working with others in our community, I am ready to make transparent, student-focused decisions. I want to ensure that as our communities grow, we maintain our close-knit values while planning for the future with strong facilities and opportunities for every student.
Committed to our values
Even as our towns grow, I am committed to keeping our schools grounded in the small-town values we all cherish, while recognizing the true worth of our students and the need to support their education with fair and sustainable funding.
